Candidate and Governor George W. Bush opposed the counting of votes in Florida in November 2000.

When considering George W. Bush and other Republican candidates for office in 2002 and 2004, let us recall that the Republican candidate for President in 2000 opposed the counting of votes legally cast by United States citizens.

Candidate George W. Bush took action, by suing in the U.S. Supreme Court, to prevent the implementation of a decision by the Florida Supreme Court to provide the best possible counting of votes in Florida, according to Florida law. Candidate Bush did this despite obvious irregularities in the voting system in Florida. Apparently, assuring his own election was more important to Candidate Bush than was the reputation of the United States election system within our country and around the world.

To those that state "get over it", this is not about whether or not George W. Bush has been the official President of the United States since 2001. Candidate Bush's decision to oppose counting votes in Florida is part of his political record, just like any other of his decisions and policies. As such, that decision is a valid criterion for deciding whether or not to vote for George W. Bush or other Republicans in upcoming elections.
